ZAIREEKA!

well, after so much hype, i had better get on with my review of the zaireeka listening experience. it went a little something like this....

[jöe sits back to take it all in]

this sunday past, an intimate group of 8 [+ 1 dog] sat & enjoyed/ endured 45 cumulative minutes of experimental music. i had situated the many stereos/ speakers that i have accumulated over the past couple of months in our dining room, a cluster in each corner, attached either to a cd player or 1 of 2 ipods wired into a couple of the systems.

[jon & andy unlock the secrets of the legend of the mysteries of zaireeka & share their combined knowledge with our circle]

there were 8 tracks, & with each one there was a little trick to getting all the sources cued up & started at precisely the same time. on at least 2 occasions, the vibrations from the track being played caused one of the cds to skip, resulting in a do-over here & there, finally we installed a pillow underneath the culprit & went on about our beeswax..

[ryan & jeff bask in the glory of sound source # 3, the most stable-with good reason]

there were screams, airplanes taking off, wails, barking dogs, & many other sampled sound bites woven into the experimental tapestry to which we would bear witness. at one point sofie started barking back at sound source #2 [aka the princess & the pea].

[cody regresses to an infantile state while amanda channels tupac during track # 6]

in the liner notes, wayne warned that infants & the elderly must not be near when track #6 is played, & even healthy adults might involuntarily begin vomiting or receive messages from the future due to the combination of hi/lo frequency sounds.... luckily there were no casualties. cody gained the power to predict the recent past. as for the music, at least 2 of the tracks [5 & 7] would have been really good to listen to even under normal circumstances, some of the others... not so much. we were mostly quiet as the music played, but in between tracks, as we set up for the next, we enjoyed provocative discourse related to the nature of perception, the bizarre lyrics & content, etc. i look forward to getting hold of a version of the album that has been mixed all together on 1 disc [for such a thing does indeed exist], mainly to be able to listen to those 2 tracks at will.

[jöe counts along while syncing sources & jenn gets stressed out by the process]

i think the consensus [though it wasn't spoken aloud] was that we were all glad to have taken part, would do it over again even knowing what we know now, but won't likely do it ever again. all in all it was a good time, we 8 [+1 dog] joined the ranks of the limited sphere who have experienced zaireeka in it's purest most unadulterated form. i invited wayne [via myspace] to join us, since he lives only about a mile away, but he sent his regrets [via jenn's brother-who works for delta airlines] as he was boarding a plane to somewhere else in the world not 36 hours prior to this historical event [his loss].

I forgot about the telling the future part. Then I remembered seeing myself remembering that I forgot that.
